Edward Francis is Ferdinand and Henrietta’s tenth child and sixth/youngest son.

He was married twice and seemingly had no children. The 1940 US Census tells us that he relocated to New Jersey at some point and lived with in-laws, which sounds horrible.

Thanks to Claire Brennan, we have a digitized copy of his journal from 1921. Due to Squarespace file size limits, I’ve had to split it into two parts.

1910 US Census: Edward [3] is living with Ferdinand and Henrietta.

1920 US Census: Edward [12] is living with Ferdinand and Henrietta and presumably attending school

1930 US Census: Edward [22] is living as a boarder in East Orange, New Jersey within the home of Paul and Jane Rayner. Edward is recorded as working a counter in a factory, but that is the extent of the details.

1940 US Census: Edward [33], his wife Mary Claire [31], and their son Edward [5] are living in East Orange, New Jersey within the home of her parents, Charles [65] and Teresa [62] Hauer. Edward is working as a salesman at a retail electric supply store and Mary is working as a stenographer at a telephone company.

1950 US Census: Edward [42] and Mary Claire [41] are living in East Orange, New Jersey with their son Edward [15] and niece Berneda [21]. Edward is working as an appliance salesman at a department store and Mary is working as a secretary at a telephone company. Berneda is working as an engineer’s chief clerk at a telephone company.

Mary Claire dies in 1967. Edward maires Mary Joan Francis Hoffman in 1976.

Mary Joan dies in 1995 aged 89. Edward dies in 1999 aged 91.

I’m unsure how/why Edward relocated from Nebraska to New Jersey. I’m also curious as to why Berneda [Fred C & Alma’s daughter] is with them in New Jersey.
